Designing a stable, robust seating form using only one piece of plywood.

Conceived and executed as a foundational introduction to wood fabrication, digital tool paths, and parametric prototyping.

Using 3D modelling software to create .DXF vector profiles, migrated into Adobe Illustrator in order to produce an optimised material nesting template, ensuring the timber sheet was used effectively.

To overcome material thickness limitations, lamination was used for the legs and seat. This structural choice successfully provided the thickness required to employ fully hidden mortise and tenon joints.

The stool maintains a slender and minimalist profile. Rigidity is achieved through interlocking rail pieces and an apron directly beneath the seat. By allowing varying material thicknesses to intersect, the construction introduces subtle visual nuance.
